Proneural and neurogenic genes control specification and morphogenesis of stomatogastric nerve cell precursors in Drosophila

Article Abstract:

Precursors of the stomatogastric nervous system (SNSPs) in Drosophila delaminate from the stomodeal epithelium as individual cells from the SNS placode during early development. Most cells of this placode invaginate into pouches (iSNSPs). The delamination and invagination processes are both influenced by the neurogenic/proneural genes. Thus, loss-of-function proneural mutants or gain-of-function neurogenic mutants exhibit reduced or absent delamination and a delay in the dissociation of the iSNSP vesicles.

Peripheral axonal pathway and cleaning behavior are correlated in Drosophila microchaetes

Article Abstract:

Experimental studies involving stimulation of microchaetes, which cover the notum of Drosophila, reveal the significant correlation between the cleaning behavior and the peripheral axonal pathway. Patterns of tendon extension and of axonal fasiculation account for the different responses to stimulation in four groups of microchaetes.
