Putting numbers on the network connections

Article Abstract:

Microfluidic technology is used for the analysis of DNA-protein interactions and also for determining the binding affinities of transcription factors (TFs) to different DNA sequences. Four TFs from the basic helix-loop-helix family of proteins, which are bound to E-box sites with the consensus CAnnTG, are analyzed and have indicated that variations in affinity for different sites has allowed each TF to regulate different genes.

Searching for the regulators of human gene expression

Article Abstract:

Two studies used recent advance in technology for high throughput genotyping and large-scale expression profiling to perform a genome-wide interrogation of the regulatory mechanisms that underlie the variation in gene expression observed between humans. The work gave insights into the complexities of gene regulation and the plausibility of genome-wide study design.

Will knowledge of human genome variation result in changing cancer paradigms?

Article Abstract:

The issues associated with the significant cancer initiating events which might take place during the very early stages of development of cancer-susceptible tissues and techniques that might help to understand carcinogenesis are discussed.
