Quantitative trait loci and gene interaction: the quantitative genetics of metapopulations

Article Abstract:

Quantitative genetics of metapopulations have been studied relative to quantitative trait loci and gene interaction. A measure of population differentiation for the local average effects of alleles, where local average effect is defined as the average effect of an allele in a deme measured as a deviation from the metapopulation mean. When only additive gene action exists, populations can differentiate for population means, but not for residual local average effects. If gene interaction exists, populations can differentiate for local average effects of alleles.

Dieldrin resistance in Lucilia cuprina (the Australian sheep blowfly): chance, selection and response

Article Abstract:

Chance, selection and response are discussed relative to dieldrin resistance in Lucilia cuprina, the Australian sheep blowfly. Random genetic drift and selection and their influence on the genetic response in the evolution of insecticide resistance are discussed. In the absence of dieldrin the susceptible allele was selectively favored. At 0.0005% (w/v) concentration selection and random genetic drift had an effect on allele frequency changes. At higher concentrations the Rdl allele had a selective advantage.

Quantitative trait loci for fluctuating asymmetry of discrete skeletal characters in mice

Article Abstract:

Quantitative trait loci (QTL) for fluctuating asymmetry (FA) are discussed relative to discrete skeletal characters in mice. In a study that used interval mapping techniques to search for QTL affecting directional asymmetry and FA in six bilateral discrete skeletal house mouse traits, it was found that a genetic basis for FA likely existed.
