Reduced skin tumor development in cyclin D1-deficient mice highlights the oncogenic ras pathway in vivo

Article Abstract:

Cyclin D1 is within a cell cycle control node that is deregulated in most human cancers. Studies with mice that lack cyclin D1 show that it is not needed for normal mouse development. It is not needed for cell growth in culture, either. Thus it seems ras-mediated tumorigenesis is dependent on signaling pathways that prefer to act via cyclin D1. There is a drop of up to 80% in development of squamous tumors from grafting or two-stage carcinogenesis.

Human ES cell-derived neural rosettes reveal a functionally distinct early neural stem cell stage

Article Abstract:

The prospective and clonal isolation of neural rosette cells (R-NSCs) is discussed. Findings reveal a functionally distinct early neural stem cell stage capable of generating the full cellular diversity in the mammalian nervous system.
