Rep and PriA helicase activities prevent RecA from provoking unnecessary recombination during replication fork repair

Article Abstract:

A study is conducted to find out how recombination can be engaged during replication using a synthetic lethality assay based on pRC7. This showed that RecA and other recombination proteins are engaged during replication as RecA is present and incites recombination rather than, as recombination is needed.

Regulation of the [sigma]E stress response by DegS: how the PDZ domain keeps the protease inactive in the resting state and allows integration of different OMP-derived stress signals upon folding stress

Article Abstract:

A study observed how the PDZ domain kept the protease inactive in a resting state that is required for the functioning of the [sigma]E stress response. The results noted that the PDZ domain and L2 of DegS define a novel molecular switch allowing strict regulation of the [sigma]E stress response system.

Replication fork stalling and cell cycle arrest in UV-irradiated Escherichia coli

Article Abstract:

A study examines the replication of ultraviolet damaged deoxyribonucleic acid in the bacterium Escherichia coli. It is found that the ongoing replication process stops for 15 to 20 minutes before restarting again, in order to avoid the dangers of excessive recombination.
