Repeated measurement study of hand osteoarthritis in an apparently healthy Caucasian population

Article Abstract:

A longitudinal, 8 year follow-up study was made to evaluate the rate of hand osteoarthritis (OA) progression in men and women, and the analysis included the influence of age, sex, anthropometric traits, baseline level of hand OA. The result revealed a correlation in the rate of OA progression in distal interphalangeal (DIP) and proximal interphalangeal joints and weak negative associations between DIP and metacarpophalangeal joints.

Patterns of joint distribution in hand osteoarthritis: contribution of age, sex, and handedness

Article Abstract:

Understanding the pattern of hand osteoarhtritis (OA) could help to evaluate biological aging, determine etiology and propose ways of preventing hand OA. Investigations conducted in this regard revealed that the rate of OA development was higher in young ages of 32-34 years and that there were significant differences between sexes only for the distal interphalangeal joints, however, handedness had no influence on it.

Indices of body composition and chronic morbidity: A cross-sectional study of a rural population in central Russia

Article Abstract:

The association between numerous anthropometrical indices of body composition and several groups of chronic morbidity in the Chuvasha population from the rural region of central Russia is evaluated. It is concluded that body mass index (BMI) should not be the only anthropometric index in association studies of chronic morbidity or in clinical practice.
