Riboprinting and 16S rRNA gene sequencing for identification of brewery Pediococcus isolates

Article Abstract:

Riboprinting may be useful in differentiating bacterial subspecies. This technique uses restriction endonuclease digestion of bacterial DNA followed by Southern hybridization to probes corresponding to the 5S-16S-23S rRNA operon. It was used on 46 brewery and 15 ATCC Pediococcus isolates.

Identification of peptides that mimic the pertussis toxin binding site on bovine fetuin

Article Abstract:

Research demonstrates that a seven-amino-acid peptide mimics the glycosidic moiety on the bovine fetuin, which binds pertussis toxin. Data indicate that the peptide is useful as an affinity matrix for the purification of pertussis toxin.

Identification and characteristics of a novel Burkholderia strain with broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity

Article Abstract:

Results show that Burkholderia bacterial strains excrete extracellular compounds that have antimicrobial activity. Data indicate that the compounds inhibit growth in bacteria, fungi, yeast, and protozoa.
