Ribosome shunting in the cauliflower mosaic virus 355 RNA leader is a special case of reinitiation of translation functioning in plant and animal systems

Article Abstract:

It has been shown that ribosome shunting in the cauliflower mosaic virus 355 RNA leader is reinitiation of translation functioning in plant and animal systems, but in a special case. Wheat germ extract and rabbit reticulocyte lysate in vitro translation systems have been used to separate two processes and study the mechanism of ribosomal shunt. In both, expression downstream of the leader took place through ribosomal shunt controlled by a stable stem and a mall ORF preceding it.

Hfq(HF1) stimulates ompA mRNA decay by interfering with ribosome binding

Article Abstract:

Host factor 1 (Hfq or HF1) brings on ompA mRNA decay by interfering with ribosome binding according to a recent study. That 30S ribosomes bound to the outer membrane protein A (ompA) 5'-untranslated region (UTR) protect the transcript from RNase E cleavage in vitro has been shown. The 30S protection however was found to be less in the presence of Hfq. Translation of ompA is repressed when Hfq is present.

A plant viral "reinitiation" factor interacts with the host translational machinery

Article Abstract:

Research has been conducted on the cauliflower mosaic virus transactivator (TAV) which controls translation initiation of the polycistronic RNA reading frames. The dependence of the TAV function on its association with the polysomes and eukaryotic initiation factor in vivo and in vitro has been investigated and the results are reported.
