Phylogeography of the European rabbit (Oryctolagos cuniculus) in the Iberian Peninsula inferred from RFLP analysis of the cytochrome b gene

Article Abstract:

Phylogeography of the European rabbit (Oryctolagos cuniculus) in the Iberian Peninsula has been studied using data from restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) analysis of the cytochrome b gene. The pattern seen suggests long-term regional isolation of two groups of populations. Two subspecies on the Iberian Peninsula followed by recent contact and admixture would be one possibility. This would seem to be related to late Pleistocene glacial and interglacial periods.

The subspecific origin of the inland breeding colonies of the cormorant Phalacrocorax carbo in Britain

Article Abstract:

The subspecific origin of cormorant, Phalacrocorax carbo, inland breeding colonies has been studied in Britain to find out about two recently established breeding colonies. Maximum likelihood and Bayesian models were used and single-strand conformation polymorphism (SSCP) was used to assess mitochondrial variation among samples, with four haplotypes found.

River basin-related genetic structuring in an endangered fish species, Chondrostoma lusitanicum, based on mtDNA sequencing and RFLP analysis

Article Abstract:

River basin-related genetic structuring in an endangered fish species has been found to be have reduced within-population genetic variability and considerable among -population differentiation, particularly marked between both the Mira and Arade basins in some populations in Portugal. The study used mtDNA sequencing and restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) analysis.
