Roles for inositol-phosphoryl ceramide synthase 1 (IPC1) in pathogenesis of C. neoformans

Article Abstract:

Inositol-phosphoryl ceramide synthase 1 (IPC1) roles in pathogenesis of Cryptococcus neoformans, a common invasive opportunistic fungal pathogen in AIDS patients, are discussed. Expression of the essential gene was studied by modulating expression in C. neoformans using a galactose inducible promoter. Down-regulation of IPC1 gives a growth defect in vivo via a pH-dependent mechanism. Ipc1 has a vital role in fungal pathogenesis.

Protein secretion and the pathogenesis of bacterial infections

Article Abstract:

The pathogenesis of bacterial infections is discussed and related to protein secretion in this review article. Three general mechanism schemes for bacterial manipulation of the host are microbial adhesion, toxin secretion into the extracellular area, microbial adhesion, and injecting virulence factors into cells. Three rules of thumb to be considered by a bacterial pathogen wanting to mount a successful assault are given.

TIF1(beta) functions as a coactivator for C/EBP(beta) and is required for induced differentiation in the myelomonocytic cell line U937

Article Abstract:

TIF1(beta) has been found to act as a coactivator for C/EBP(beta) and to be necessary for induced differentiation in the myelomonocytic cell line U937. Representational difference analysis (RDA), a kind of subtractive cloning was used for study of early genes expressed in myeloid differentiation.
