Article Abstract:

Reed Cartwright, a PhD in genetics, posted a blog of an alternative hypothesis about a peculiar phenomenon regarding a mutant gene because he did not want to publish it in a science journal. However, when Luca Comai, a plant geneticist discovered that Cartwright's blog was identical to his own explanation of the phenomenon, he encouraged Cartwright to co-author in his publication in "Plant Cell". This incident indicates that blogs can be used for posting novel data and also for publishing formal scientific papers.

Long life and forkhead deacetylation

Article Abstract:

Leonard Guarante's lab at Massachusetts Institute of Technology showed that histone deacetylase Sir2 needs forkhead family transcription factor Daf-16 to extend the work of life. While exact mechanism of how SIRTI connects forkhead transcription factors (FOXO) to aging is studied, it is found that SIRTI is the best aspirant to mediate the salutary effects of calorie restriction on health and longevity.
