Selective biodegradation of S and N heterocycles by a recombinant Rhodococcus erythropolis strain containing carbazole dioxygenase

Article Abstract:

A carbazole (CA) dioxygenase gene was introduced into the excellent dibenzothiophene (DBT) degrader Rhodococcus erythropolis XP, which could desulfurize DBT through a 4S pathway. The report obtained is a significant step toward the development of a bioprocess for removing recalcitrant nitrogen and sulfur compounds from petroleum.

Degradation of carbazole by microbial cells immobilized in magnetic gellan gum gel beads

Article Abstract:

The degradation of carbazole is investigated by immobilized Sphingomonas spieces strain XLDN2-5 cells using gellan gum for immobilization support. The magnetically immobilized cells presented higher carbazole degradation activity than nonmagnetically immobilized cells and free cells.

Identification and functional analysis of two aromatic-ring-hydroxylating dioxygenases from a Sphingomonas strain that degrades various polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons

Article Abstract:

The enzymes involved in polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) degradation inthechrysene-degrading organism Sphingomonas sp-strain CH4-1 investigated is discussed. Results suggest that PhnI might be capable of oxidizing methylpiaphthalene like the related enzyme from cycloclasticus.
