Chromosome mapping of the sweet potato little leaf phytoplasma reveals genome heterogeneity within the phytoplasmas

Article Abstract:

Research describes chromosome mapping of the phytoplasma associated with sweet potato little leaf disease. Results show genomic diversity in the genetic architecture of the phytoplasmas.

Sequence and RFLP analysis of the elongation factor Tu gene used in differentiation and classification of phytoplasmas

Article Abstract:

An analysis of the PCR-amplified tuf genes of phytoplasmas coming from various phylogenetic groups was conducted. The methods used in the study were PCR amplification of tuf genes, RFLP analysis and Southern blot hybridization. Findings showed that phytoplasmas possess only one replica of the tuf genes, compared with other gram-positive bacteria. Furthermore, the nucleotide sequencing showed two pairs of primers responsible for the amplification of the majority of phylogenic groups.

Geminivirus-related extrachromosomal DNAs of the X-clade phytoplasmas share high sequence similarity

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to analyze extrachromosomal DNAs associated with the Italian clover phyllody phytoplasma strains collected in Cavazzo carnico and with the phylogenetically related Vaccinnium witches' broom and walnut witches' broom phytoplasmas. Results indicated that size variation was not associated with plant host specificity. Findings also showed the presence of highly conserved ORFs with substantially invariant putative translation products.
