Sequential quality-control checkpoints triage misfolded cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator

Article Abstract:

An endoplasmic reticulum (ER) membrane-associated ubiquitin ligase complex containing the E3 RMA1, the E2 Ubc6e, and Derlin-1 that cooperates with the cytosolic Hsc70/CHIP E3 complex to triage the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) and CFTRdeltaF508 is identified. Results show the RMA1 and CHIP E3 ubiquitin ligases act sequentially in ER membrane and cytosol to monitor the folding status of CFTR and CFTRdeltaF508.

Ubiquitin ligase Smurf1 controls osteoblast activity and bone homeostasis by targeting MEKK2 for degradation

Article Abstract:

Smurf1, a HECT domain ubiquitin ligase, has a specific physiological role in suppressing the osteogenic activity of osteoblasts. The results indicate that Smurf1 negatively regulates osteoblast activity and response to bone morphogenesis protein (BMP) through controlling MEKK2 degradation.
