Single-Locus inheritance in the allotetraploid Coffea arabica L. and interspecific hybrid C. arabica x C. canephora

Article Abstract:

The mode of inheritance in C. arabica and in a tetraploid interspecific hybrid, arabusta was determined using restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) markers. It is indicated that homologous chromosomes do not pair in C. arabica due to the function of pairing regulating factors. The arabusta hybrid appears to provide the possibility of gene exchange between homologous genomes.

Heritability estimates for octyl acetate and octyl butyrate in the mature fruit of the wild parsnip

Article Abstract:

Aliphatic esters octyl acetate and octyl butyrate are major components of essential oils in the oil tubes of the wild parsnip. Phenotypic variation and narrow-sense heritabilities of the octyl esters in wild parsnip fruits were found from 30 maternal families. Ester amounts were not genetically correlated, suggesting that they may respond independently to selection pressures.

High levels of genetic polymorphism in the insular endemic herb Jepsonia malvifolia

Article Abstract:

Research is presented concerning the compilation of a survey of the genotype of 12 populations of Jepsonia malvifolia which is endemic to Guadalupe Island, Mexico, and the Channel Islands, CA. The high levels of polymorphism are discussed.
