Smad3-dependent nuclear translocation of beta-catenin is required for TGF-beta1-induced proliferation of bone marrow-derived adult human mesenchymal stem cells

Article Abstract:

The transforming growth factor beta1 (TGF-beta1) induces rapid nuclear translocation of beta-catenin in human mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) in a Smad3-dependent manner. Functionally, this pathway is required for the stimulation of MSC proliferation and the inhibition of MSC osteogenic differentiation by TGF-beta1, likely through the regulation of specific downstream target genes.

Extracellular matrix protein [beta]ig-h3/TGFBI promotes metastasis of colon cancer by enhancing cell extravasation

Article Abstract:

The elevated expression of betaig-h3/TGFBI, an extracellular D secreted by colon cancer cells is associated with high-grade human colon cancer. It is concluded that cancers associated with overexpression of betaig-h3 have an increased metastatic potential, leading to poor prognosis in cancer patients.

Axin and GSK3-[beta] control Smad3 protein stability and modulate TGF-[beta] signaling

Article Abstract:

The impact of the scaffolding protein Axin and the glycogen synthase kinase 3-[beta] (GSK3-[beta]) on Smad3 protein is investigated. The proteins are widely use to control Smad3 stability and are hence use for the modulation of TGF-[beta] signaling.
