Stable low-copy-number Staphylococcus aureus shuttle vectors

Article Abstract:

Results indicate that a range of Staphylococcus aureus-Escherichia coli shuttle vectors, based on the replication and maintenance properties of the S. aureus theta-mode pSK1-multiresistance plasmid, enable successful cloning and expression of many genes previously proved to be difficult to express in S. aureus.

Cloning, sequencing and mutagenesis of the genes for aromatic amine dehydrogenase from Alcaligenes faecalis and evolution of amine dehydrogenases

Article Abstract:

Results reveal that the gene for aromatic amine utilization in Alcaligenes faecalis consists of nine genes and code for the periplasmic aromatic amine dehydrogenase. Data suggest that the enzyme participates in the utilization of primary amines by A. faecalis.

Analysis of the beta-glucoside utilization (bgI) genes of Shigella sonnei: evolutionary implications for their maintenance in a cryptic state

Article Abstract:

Genetic expression of the genes involved in the beta-glucoside utilization in Shigella is different from that of the Escherichia coli. The evolutionary significance of these differences in maintaining the genes in a cryptic state is presented.
