Energetics of syntrophic propionate oxidation in defined batch and chemostat cocultures

Article Abstract:

Research has been conducted on the propionate consumption in syntropic batch and chemostat cocultures. Results indicate that the Gibbs free energy allowed the synthesis of 1/3 mol of ATP per reaction.

Starvation alters the apparent half-saturation constant for methane in the type II methanotroph Methylocystis strain LR1

Article Abstract:

Results demonstrate that Methylocystis strain LR1 cells when grown in the absence of methane exhibit lower apparent half-saturation constant for methane as well as reduced rate of methane oxidation. Data further indicate that the affinity for methane is unaltered.

Wide distribution of a novel pmoA-like gene copy type II methanotrops, and its expression in Methylocystis strain SC2

Article Abstract:

Research has been conducted on methanotrops. The authors have investigated the presence of the diverse pmoA genes in methanotrops' genotypic trait, and have described the development of PCR hybridization probes and primers for the detection of pmoA-like genes in methane-oxidizing genospecies.
