Structural differences between two types of basidiomycete septal pore caps

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to identify structural differences between the septal pore cap (SPC) of Trichosporon sporotrichoides CBS 8245 and Schizophyllum commune CBS 340.81. Results showed that the SPC of T. sporotrichoides is parallel with the dolipore septa. Moreover, smooth vesicular-tubular membranes can be rarely seen. On the other hand, the SPC of S. commune features smooth outer and inner membrane and a covering of electron dense material.

Dynamic changes in the morphology of Cryptococcus neoformans during murine pulmonary infection

Article Abstract:

Research reveals that Cryptococcus neoformans populations in tissue undergo dynamic morphological changes during the course of murine pulmonary infection. Data indicate that cells show increased cell wall thickness, melanization, and black color. The heterogeneous cell populations assume giant forms.

Hybrid genotypes in the pathogenic yeast Cryptococcus neoformans

Article Abstract:

Genetic structure and epidemiological aspects of cryptococcal isolates, collected worldwide, show genetic divergence among the isolates suggesting hybridization between the species. Amplified fragment length polymorphism genotyping technique reveals new genotypes with altered virulence.
