Suppression of toxin production in Clostridium difficile VPI 10463 by amino acids

Article Abstract:

Research was conducted to examine the effect of various growth conditions, such as growth rate, growth phase, biotin, glucose, amino acids and various buffering of the medium, on the expression of toxins and other proteins by Clostridium difficile. An analysis of the proteins that were co-expressed with the toxins was performed by two-dimensional PAGE. Results suggest that toxin production by C. difficile VPI 10463 was markedly lowered by the presence of certain amino acids in the growth medium.

Length extension in growing yeast: is growth exponential? - yes

Article Abstract:

A reexamination of the data presented by J.M. Mitchison, A. Sveiczer and B. Novak on cell-size measurements indicated an exponential cell growth of Schizosaccharomyces pombe during the division cycle. The original data were replotted on semi-logarithmic paper and were found to fit an exponential growth pattern. The halting of growth at the end of the cycle is still unknown. Hence, the simplest explanation for cell growth is that all cells experience exponential growth during the division cycle.
