Temporal allele frequency change and estimation of effective size in populations with overlapping generations

Article Abstract:

The mechanism of allele frequency variation in finite population is investigated for determining the effective size from observing the temporal frequency changes in the selectively neutral alleles. The allele frequency variation reveals the effective population size is not the only factor which determines the frequency changes. The age-specific survival and birth rates also influence the changes in the frequency.

Intraclass and interclass correlations of allele sizes within and between loci in DNA typing data

Article Abstract:

The effect of errors in the measurement of variable number oftandem repeat segment on approximations of interclass and intraclass correlation was studied. Transformation of these nonparametric measures of correlation was demonstrated to yield variables with normal distribution. Computer simulation studies also demonstrated the utility of the estimates of transformed correlations in forensic studies.

Multilocus DNA profiling using the probe 33.6 in the Tamil Nadu population of south India

Article Abstract:

DNA fragments of size >2.5 kb were reliably scored in 102 individuals of the Dravidian Hindu population of Tamil Nadu, South India. A multilocus minisatellite probe 33.6 in combination with the HinfI restriction enzyme was used. Hindus showed a smaller number of DNA bands than Caucasians. The probe can be used to efficiently resolve forensic and parentage identification.
