The Cold Spring Harbor Phage Course (1945-1970): a 50th anniversary remembrance

Article Abstract:

The Cold Spring Harbor Phage Course, started in 1945 by Max Delbruck, provided basic training in phage biology. The course included training in plague containing, soft agar plating, sterile technique and serial dilution. The course that had a 25-year life-span was taught at different places every year, including remote sites. Graduates of the course included noted molecular biologists such as Gunther Stent, Robert Edgar, Norton Zinder and Mark Adams.

My favorite animal, Trichoplax adhaerens

Article Abstract:

Trichoplax adhaerens attracts the attention of modern multidisciplinary research as it is simply organized metazoan animal, possesses the smallest genome of all metazoans and is undergoing whole-genome sequencing. Understanding the genetic control of its development would clarify basic principles of metazoan organization and success of the research depends on progress at organismal level, particularly with respect to documenting life cycle.
