The bactericidal activity of pediocin PA-1 is specifically inhibited by a 15-mer fragment that spans the bacteriocin from the center toward the C terminus

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to determine a 15-mer peptide fragment from the C-terminal half of the pediocin-like bacteriocin, pediocin PA-1, that inhibits the bactericidal activity of pediocin PA-1. Results suggested that polypeptide chains ,au be divided into two functional domains based on the primary and three-dimensional structures of bacteriocins. Findings also indicated that the interaction of a membrane component with residues of a specificity-determining region supported the permeabilization of the membrane.

Effectiveness of germicidal UV radiation for reducing fungal contamination within air-handling units

Article Abstract:

Germicidal UV lamps installed inside air-handling units in central heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning systems can reduce the amount of mold growing inside the units. This was the conclusion of researchers who installed the lamps in the HVAC system of an office building.
