Needed: Praise for postdocs

Article Abstract:

The recognition and appreciation at postdoctors' level can have several positive effects, as such awards serve to set winners apart from their peers and encourage researchers to break new ground or to try new fields. The awards are very useful for graduates and postdoctors and the money offers the flexibility to be choosier in selecting a postdoctoral laboratory.

The different ways of setting up a new laboratory with a start-up amount given by the university is illustrated. The way in which a new tenure-track used $200,000 given by the university to start a biochemistry laboratory is examined.
