The decentric nature of the metacentric B chromosome of Metaleptea brevicornis adspersa (Acridinae, Acrididae)

Article Abstract:

The meiotic behavior of a large B isochromosome of Metaleptea brevicornis adspersa (Acridinae, Acrididae) has been studied in both sexes and two models for the origin of isochromosomes postulated. In males both arms of the B chromosome synapse at zygotene-early pachytene and suggest its isochromosomal nature. The dicentric nature of the N was confirmed by silver staining of kinetochores at metaphase I and anaphase II stages. A dicentirc B isochromosome has not previously been described.

The effects of Robertsonian fusions on chiasma frequency and distribution in the house mouse (Mus musculus domesticus) from a hybrid zone in northern Scotland

Article Abstract:

Robertsonian fusions and their effects on chiasma frequency and distribution in male house mice have been studied in a hybrid zone in northern Scotland. A differential effect of heterozygous and homozygous Rb fusions on chiasma frequency and localization in male mice from the hybrid zone is described.

No harmful effects of a selfish B chromosome on several morphological and physiological traits in Locusta migratoria (Orthoptera, Acrididae)

Article Abstract:

The analysis of possible effects of B chromosomes in Locusta migratoria, migratory locusts, in Spain, on several physiological and morphological traits and some other traits that pertain to female fitness is discussed. No harmful effects of a selfish B chromosome are seen on several morphological and physiological traits, and B chromosomes were not seen to be strongly parasitic in the studied population.
