The evolution of human fatness and susceptibility to obesity: An ethological approach

Article Abstract:

An evolutionary analysis identifying factors favoring the capacity for fat deposition may aid in the development of preventive public health strategies. Some of the factors such as proximate causes, ontogeny, fitness value and evolutionary history of human fat deposition are considered while it is found that fat deposition peaks during late gestation and early infancy and again during adolescence in females.

Female post-reproductive lifespan: A general mammalian trait

Article Abstract:

The studies on the evolution of menopause and post-reproductive lifespan in human females based on the benefits of maternal or grand-maternal care outweighing the cost of lost reproduction are presented. The early end of reproduction relative to lifespan is considered due to the cost of production and/ or maintenance of oocytes, which decline exponentially over time.

Novelties of conception in insectivorous mammals (Lipotyphla), particularly shrews

Article Abstract:

The reproductive idiosyncrasies that occur variously in different lipotyphlan famoloedm and appear consistently and strikingly in shrews and its group is studied. The regulation of sperm transport to the site of fertilization by oviduct crypts, whose arrangement can vary even according to species, is the one of the most interesting anomalies in soricids.
