The hippo pathway regulates the bantam microRNA to control cell proliferation and apoptosis in Drosophila

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to show that Yorkie transcriptional activator activates an additional target gene, bantam, encoding a microRNA that is known to control tissue growth in Drosophila. The results favor the view that bantam acts in a highly cooperative way with other Yorkie target genes to mediate the effects of the Hippo pathway on cell proliferation and apoptosis.

Slug antagonizes p53-mediated apoptosis of hematopoietic progenitors by repressing puma

Article Abstract:

The mechanism by which the transcriptional repressor slug specifically rescues hematopoietic progenitor cells from lethal doses of gamma-radiation was investigated. It was found that the slug functions down-stream of p53 in developing blood cells as a critical switch that prevents their apoptosis by antagonizing the trans-activation of puma by p53.

The Hippo signaling pathway coordinately regulates cell proliferation and apoptosis by inactivating Yorkie, the Drosophila homolog of YAP

Article Abstract:

The identification of yorkie (yki) as the elusive target of the warts (Wts/Lats) tumor suppressor is discussed. The overexpression of yki results in phenotype loss-of-function mutations of hippo (hpo) or wts, elevated transcription of cyceE and diap1, increase in proliferation, defective apoptosis and tissue overgrowth.
