The human Y chromosome is not dead (yet)

Article Abstract:

Some people believe that in due course the human Y-chromosome (HY) will disappear owing to lack of recombination resulting in degeneration in size and number of HY genes. Recent research has proved that during the last 6 million years of human evolution, the HY has not suffered any loss of genes and also that a continuous process of gene conversion, homologous recombination, inversion, deletion and duplication events influenced by purifying selection prevents the degenerative process.
