The in vivo expression of the FGF receptor FREK mRNA in avian myoblasts suggests a role in muscle growth and differentiation

Article Abstract:

A new avian cell receptor for fibroblast growth factor called FREK was observed in replicating skeletal muscle myoblasts from chick embryos but not in differentiated muscle cells. BrdU labeling techniques showed that muscle progenitors originating from the somite start FREK expression at three days of development. In limb myoblasts, FREK expression precedes expression of MyoD, indicating that FREK is expressed prior to differentiation. These results show that FREK expression can be used as a molecular marker for myoblast cell populations.

Proliferation of chicken myoblasts is regulated by specific isoforms of platelet-derived growth factor: evidence for differences between myoblasts from mid and late stages of embryogenesis

Article Abstract:

Experiments conducted to determine the role of platelet-derived growth factor (PGDF) during embryogenesis revealed that this mitogen increases the production of chicken myoblasts specially during the late stages of development. The rate of expression of PGDF receptors was measured using myogenic clones from chick embryos. Higher levels of PGDF binding were observed in the later stages than in earlier stages of development.

Transcription of Myocyte enhancer factor-2 in adult Drosophila myoblasts is induced by the steroid hormone ecdysone

Article Abstract:

A mechanism is posited for the launch of adult myogenesis in Drosophila, in which myoblast twist expression offers a cellular format on which a signal develops in order to regulate muscle-specific differentiation.
