The integrin alphavbeta6 binds and activates latent TGFbeta1: a mechanism for regulating pulmonary inflammation and fibrosis

Article Abstract:

A study on the transforming growth factor (TGF) beta family members revealed that mice lacking the integrin alphavbeta6 developed inflammation and are protected from pulmonary fibrosis. Results also showed a novel mechanism for regulating TGbetaF1 function by regulating expression of the alphavbeta6 integrin. These results indicate that the activation of TGFbeta1 by alphavbeta6-expressing cells is responsible for the regulation of pulmonary inflammation and fibrosis.

A prostaglandin J(sub 2) metabolite binds peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma and promotes adipocyte differentiation

Article Abstract:

The 15-deoxy-delta(super 12,14)-prostaglandin J(sub 2) binds to peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPAR-gamma) and stimulates the differentiation of fibroblasts to adipocytes. The interaction of PGJ(sub 2) with PPAR factors stimulates the transcription genes which increase adipogenesis. PGJ(sub 2) strongly activates both PPAR-alpha and PPAR-gamma. Lipid homeostasis and adipocyte differentiation involve the PPAR orphan nuclear receptors.

The vesicle docking protein p115 binds gm130, a cis-golgi matrix protein, in a mitotically regulated manner

Article Abstract:

The mitotically regulated manner of interaction between vesicle docking protein p115 and cis-Golgi matrix protein GM130 was analyzed through utilization of deletion analysis which revealed that p115 specifically interacts with the N-terminus while GM130 with C-terminus. Mitotically modified GM130 and N-terminus peptide failed to bind with p115, significantly implying that interactions were mitotically regulated.
