The temperature sensitivity of Bacillus subtilis DB1005 is due to insufficient activity, rather than insufficient concentration, of the mutant sigma A factor

Article Abstract:

The sigma A factor properties of Bacillus subtilis were examined. The mutant sigma A was shown to be unstable at 37 degrees celsius, while the wild-type sigma A was fairly unstable at the same temperature. High mutant sigma A concentration was not able to suppress the Ts phenotype, supporting the idea that temperature sensitivity of B. subtilis DB1005 was not caused by insufficient sigma A concentration. Reduced sigma A activity at high temperature suggested that the temperature sensitivity of B. subtilis DB1005 was a result of a very low sigma A activity.

Dimethyl sulphoxide reduction with reduced sulphur compounds as electron donors by anoxygenic phototropic bacteria

Article Abstract:

The kinetics of dimethyl sulfoxide reduction was analyzed in Rhodovulum euryhalinum strain DSM 4868 during dimethyl sulphoxide (DMSO) reduction with reduced sulfur compounds. Characterization of DMSO reduction with sulphide by Rhodovolum euryhalum indicated a sulphide oxidation rate of 60 minutes which led to the formation and subsequent transformation of elemental sulfur to sulphate. Furthermore, reduction of sulphide and sulfates served as electron donors during the reduction of DMSO to dimethyl sulphide.
