Transglobal comparisons of nuclear and mitochondrial genetic structure in a marine polyploid clam (Lasaea, Lasaeidae)

Article Abstract:

Comparisons of nuclear and mitochondrial genetic structure have been carried out in a marine polyploid clam (Lasaea, Lasaeidae) around the globe, that is, in New Zealand, Japan, Florida, South Africa and Bermuda. The nuclear and mtDNA genetic structure was found to be consistent with Lasaea clonal diversity enriched by local mutational derivatives. However, the possibility of infrequent recombination cannot be eliminated.

Population differentiation within and among Asian elephant (Elephas maximus) populations in southern India

Article Abstract:

A study of free ranging Asian elephants was conducted, examining within- and among-population differentiation by analyzing mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) and nuclear microsatellite DNA. The results variably indicated the importance of population bottlenecks, social organization, and biogeographic barriers in shaping the distribution of genetic variation among Asian Elephant populations in southern India.

Mitochondrial DNA variation, phylogeography and population structure of the Asian elephant

Article Abstract:

Phylogeography, mitochondrial DNA variation, and population structure have been studied in the Asian elephant by sampling from Sri Lanka, Bhutan-India and Laos-Vietnam. Comparing sequences with those in the African elephant showed a relatively slow molecular clock in the Proboscidea. Significant genetic differentiation was seen between the mainland and Sri Lanka.
