UAS(sub.rpg) can function as a heterochromatin boundary element in yeast

Article Abstract:

UAS(sub.rpg) can act as a yeast heterochromatin boundary element. Promoters of Saccharomyces cerevisiae TEF2/TEF1 (ital) genes and that of the TEF (ital) gene of filamentous fungus Ashbya gossypii resist silencing when placed at HM loci. The HM loci in S. cerevisiae make up region-specific, yet gene-nonspecific, repression domains. Various heterologous genes transcribed by RNA polymerase II/III are silenced if put into those loci.

Wnt/beta-catenin signaling is sufficient and necessary for synovial joint formation

Article Abstract:

The identification of the beta-catenin mediated canonical Wnt pathway as the first signaling pathway that is both sufficient and necessary for the induction of synovial joints in limbs is studied. The Wnt/beta -catenin signaling pathway is necessary6 and sufficient to induce early step of synovial joint formation.
