Use of length heterogeneity PCR and fatty acid methyl ester profiles to characterize microbial communities in soil

Article Abstract:

Length heterogeneity PCR (LH-PCR) is as effective as fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) analysis in identifying soil bacteria. LH-PCR identifies different microorganisms based on variations in the length of 16S ribosomal DNA sequences.

Microbial community dynamics associated with rhizosphere carbon flow

Article Abstract:

The results of a study shows the fundamental differences in the way in which rizhodeposition was cycled through microbial communities during two stages of plant development. The use of phospholipid fatty acids PLFA analysis coupled with (super 13)C pulse chase labeling appears to be promising and effective approach for examining the microbial dynamics associated with rhizosphere C cycling.

Geographic distribution and genetic diversity of Ceanothus-infective Frankia strains

Article Abstract:

Molecular techniques were employed in investigating the diversity of the Ceanothus-infective Frankia strains. The breadth of the diversity of Frankia strains infecting Ceanothus spp was studied since the Ceanothus species used are representative of the taxonomic diversity and geographic range of the genus. Results led to the conclusion that there is little genetic diversity in the Frankia strains infecting Oregon Ceanothus species.
