Use of semiconductor quantum dots for photostable immunofluorescence labeling of Cryptosporidium parvum

Article Abstract:

Studies done to develop a specific, sensitive and photostable detection method for C.parvum oocysts by using luminescence QD-streptavidin together with biotinylated anti-Cryptosporidium sp.monoclonal antibody (MAb) are reported. It is demonstrated that the QD-streptavidin with biotinylated MAb was able to provide a sensitive technique for detecting C.parvum oocysts with the advantage of having a high photobleaching threshold.

An alternative efficient procedure for purification of the obligate intracellular fish bacterial pathogen Piscirickettsia salmonis

Article Abstract:

Research describes the isolation of pure Piscirickettsia salmonis using a density gradient centrifugation procedure that uses iodixanol as a separation medium. Iodixanol is a high density and low osmolarity substance. Data indicate that the low osmolarity of iodixanol facilitates better resolution of the bacteria from the membranous structires of the host cell.

Effect of particles on the recovery of Cryptosporidium oocysts from source water samples of various turbidities

Article Abstract:

Research indicates that suspended particles in reservoir water can be helpful in the recovery of oocysts using filtration step in the recovery methodology. Data indicate that particle size and concentration improve oocyte recovery, as such adding particles to a water matrix in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency developed method 1622 is reccommended.
