Vibrio cholerae non-O1 isolated from ayu fish (Plecoglossus altivelis) in Japan

Article Abstract:

Vibrio cholerae non-O1 is one of causative agents of fish vibriosis. Strains isolated from infected ayu fish were characterized to determine the nature of the exotoxins and their public health importance. The results showed that all of the isolates examined possess a common major O antigen, although antiserum against one isolate failed to agglutinate majority of the environmental isolates. All strains tested induced hemolysis on sheep erythrocytes. However, the crude toxin was not lethal to adult mice. The results showed that the health risks posed by this strain of Vibrio is not very substantial, although the dangers of food poisoning cannot be ruled out.

Chemical and sensory changes associated with microbial flora of Mediterranean boque (Boops boops) stored aerobically at 0, 3, 7, and 10 degrees C

Article Abstract:

Research was conducted to examine the development of a microbial community and transformations in the physicochemical and sensorial properties of Mediterranean boque called gopa in Greece. The fresh boque were stored at 0, 3, 7 and 10 degrees C and three independent storage experiments were conducted where 12 sampling times per temperature were tested in each experiment. Results indicate that the spoilage of fresh fish arises from the activity of more than one specific spoilage organism. Similar findings were observed for other fish stored aerobically.

Genomic classification of fish nodaviruses by molecular phylogenetic analysis of the coat protein gene

Article Abstract:

A molecular phylogenetic investigation of 25 isolates of fish nodaviruses, the causative agents of viral nervous necrosis of marine fish, was conducted based on the nucleotide sequences of the coat protein gene. These fish nodaviruses were classified into four clusters: tiger puffer nervous necrosis virus, striped jack nervous necrosis virus, berfin flounder nervous necrosis virus, and red-spotted grouper nervous necrosis virus.
