pH Gradient-induced heterogeneity of Fe(III)-reducing microorganisms in coal mining-associated lake sediments

Article Abstract:

The impact of pH on the Fe(III)-reducing activities in both of the sediment zones is examined and molecular analyses are used for elucidating the sediment microbial diversity. The results have shown that the upper acidic sediment is inhabited by acidophiles or moderate acidophiles that can also reduce Fe(III) under slightly acidic conditions.

Comparison of shiga-toxigenic Escherichia coli prevalences among dairy, feedlot, and cow-calf herds in Washington State

Article Abstract:

Shiga toxin gene and the shiga-toxigenic Escherichia coli (STEC) prevalences were substantially related with the animal production type and the season. The three groups of dairy, feedlot and the cow-calf consisting of four farms in each group were checked for the type of production in the state of Washington.
