1995 spending cuts signed by Clinton

Article Abstract:

Pres Clinton signed a bill into law on Jul 27, 1995, that calls for cuts of $16.3 billion more than the budget in FY 1995. The bill keeps funding for education, job training and environmental programs, but makes deep cuts in them. Housing and national service programs have also been cut.

Balanced-budget amendment blocked by Senate Democrats

Article Abstract:

The Democrats in the Senate succeeded in defeating a proposed constitutional amendment that would require Congress to come up with a balanced federal budget. Earlier, the proposal was approved by the Republican-dominated House of Representatives.

Clinton budget plan clears Congress; $496 billion in tax hikes and spending cuts set

Article Abstract:

Congress approved Pres Bill Clinton's budget bill, the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act, on Aug 5-6, 1993. The main provisions include tax increases for the wealthy, tax credits for lower-income workers and an increase in the gasoline tax.
