1996 presidential race: Pete Wilson quites GOP race

Article Abstract:

Wilson announced Sep 29, 1995 that he was quitting because of fiscal problems which includes a $1 mil debt. His bid may have been hampered also by the shadow of Colin L. Powell, and the new party formed by Ross Perot. Wilson's unfulfilled 1994 gubernatorial promises may also have cost him.

Wilson announced on Jun 15, 1995, that he plans to join a field of eight other candidates who are seeking the 1996 Republican presidential nomination. Wilson reiterated his pro-choice stance, and said he opposes the Republican party's 1992 anti-abortion plank.

1996 presidential campaign: Republican hopefuls attend TV forum

Article Abstract:

A television forum in Manchester, NH, allowed the 10 Republican presidential candidates to express their qualifications and goals for the job of president. Many of the goals expressed were similar, and some of the candidates criticized Pres Clinton.
