Six representatives to Congress are profiled as to how their previous small business experiences impact their attitudes as legislators. They include Merrill Cook who owns a mining explosives firm in Utah, Kay Granger who ran an insurance company in Fort Worth, TX. and Florida farmer F Allen Boyd Jr.

A bill to outlaw replacing strikers

Article Abstract:

Congress is considering a bill that would prohibit firms from hiring permanent replacement workers during a strike. Labor leaders say the legislation is needed to make the collective-bargaining process more equal, but employers fear this will give unions an unfair advantage.

A scrap over the Superfund law

Article Abstract:

Insurance costs for scrap recyclers have increased because of the inclusion of liability of potentially responsible parties in the Superfund laws. Recycler companies end up funding hazardous waste clean up for sites they did not create.
