Alliances and other things

Article Abstract:

Major research has been conducted on strategic business alliances, which is defined as a partnership between two or more firms that wish to combine their efforts while sharing some of their resources as they each do not have, individually, the necessary resources to achieve their objectives. It is argued that alliances are considerably risky. Therefore, any firm contemplating one ought to consider its objectives, whether they really need to attain this objective or can survive with a more modest alternative, and whether they can accomplish their goal through an acquisition.

Performance of alliances: formative stages and changing organizational and environmental influences

Article Abstract:

It is quite paradoxical that strategic business alliances are increasing progressively over time yet all the empirical evidence suggests inadequate returns to these partnerships. A study therefore determined, based on in-depth interviews with managers, the most significant organizational and environmental influences on the performances of alliances broken down by the formative stages of the alliances and with a focus on the early formative stages in the life cycle of partnerships.

Using strategic partnerships to create a sustainable competitive position for hi-tech start-up firms

Article Abstract:

Partnerships are important to small, fledgling organizations yet many such ventures fail because they have been forged for the wrong reasons or managed badly. A study on the creation and development of start-up, high-technology firms sought to determine when and under what conditions a strategic alliance is required by these firms, what form it ought to take, and what observation can be made about the successful management of these partnerships.
