American activist expelled

Ross Terrill, a US activist with ties the Chinese democracy movement, was expelled by the Chinese government on Sep 2, 1992. Movement leader Shen Tong was arrested on Sep 1, 1992 after returning from exile in the US.

Congress approves senior leaders

The National People's Congress in China selected the country's top leaders in a March 15-31, 1993, session. Li Peng was reelected to a second five-year term as president, and Jiang Zemin was selected president.
