An investigation into the people-sequential heuristic method of group formation

Article Abstract:

The educational balanced group assignment approach is not effective alone as a means of effecting learning increases or raising satisfaction with the process. The investigation examines the people-sequential heuristic method of forming student groups, including a high-scoring and a low-scoring student in each group and keeping all group background scores approximately the same in order to form balanced groups. Twelve hypotheses were tested in an exercise using balanced student groups, but the assignment method was not found to have significant impact on measures of student learning, satisfaction, or perceived value of the course.

Institutional research productivity in production and operations management

Article Abstract:

An investigation into the research output of academic institutions in the realm of Productions and Operations Management (POM) over the period 1979-1995 shows that not one institution could be regarded as dominant in the field. One basis for findings was the number of articles and pages published in the top five journals, namely, Management Science, Decision Sciences, Journal of Operations Management, IIE Transactions and International Journal of Production Research.

The impact of learning and labor attrition on worker flexibility in dual resource constrained job shops

Article Abstract:

Research has shown that efficiency gains rest on flexible technology and a flexible workforce. Of the two a cross-trained workforce has been found to be more effective. Further studies have shown that even taking into account time lost during training and workers leaving a flexible workforce can improve many aspects of a company's performance. This research threw up other variables on learning and employees leaving during training.
