An organizational information-processing profile of first movers

Article Abstract:

Organizational information-processing theory is used to examine a set of organizational predictors of first moves. Results of a Tobit analysis shows that the level of first-mover activity posts a positive increase as boundary spanning and the educational level of the top management team increases. However, this declines as formalization and the industry-specific experience of the top management team increases. Implications of the results for building competitive advantage are discussed.
