Ansett chief promises to wield the branding iron

Article Abstract:

Ansett Airlines of Australia is a member of the Star Alliance, which also includes Lufthansa and United among others. Rod Eddington, Ansett executive chairman, plans to increase the airline's customers through the Star Alliance. Ansett's projected profits for 1997-1998 was $100 million before the Asian crisis; it will be $30-40 million. Eddington plans to improve services while keeping costs down.

Gung-ho Grey ready for another stoush

Article Abstract:

Aussie Airlines is a new start up airline being created by Bryan Grey. Grey was involved with the now defunct trunk-carrier airline Compass Airlines, which was created in 1989 after the deregulation of the industry. Aussie Airlines has a A$10 million deal with Quantas to use some of its terminal gates. Grey is optimistic about Aussie's prospects, forecasting trunk-carrier growth of 20-25%.

Airline refit marks another beginning

Article Abstract:

Qantas Airways expects to take delivery of its remodeled Wunala Dreaming, a Boeing 747-400, in Jun 1998. The $568-million program has added special features including sleeping compartments. The airline plans to overhaul its entire fleet by 2000, in time for the Sydney Olympic Games. Both Qantas and Ansett Airlines are also enhancing their airport clubroom facilities.
