Australia: Tasmania massacre leaves 35 dead

Article Abstract:

The shootings occurred at about 1:30 pm on Apr 28, 1996, around the ruins of a colonial prison, a popular tourist attraction in Port Author. After the shootings, the gunman reportedly drove to a guest cottage and took 3 people hostage. On Apr 29, 1996, the gunman was captured after setting the cottage ablaze.

Guerrero governor quits over massacre

Article Abstract:

Mexico's Supreme Court began an investigation on Mar 4, 1996, into charges that Figueroa and other Guerrero officials helped coverup a police massacre of 17 unarmed peasants in Jun 1995. Figueroa stepped down as governor on Mar 12, 1996, after losing the support of Pres Ernesto Zedillo.
