Axys abandons work on drug for asthma

Article Abstract:

Axys Pharmaceuticals Inc will drop development of its inhalable asthma drug APC 366 because it caused some coughing and wheezing in Phase I safety trials. Axys had hoped that its triptase inhibitor would be marketable by 2002. The San Francisco company has other products in the very early stages of development, including an oral form of APC 366 being co-developed with Bayer AG. Bayer also has options to license Axys triptase inhibitors developed for psoriasis and acute inflammatory bowel disease.
