BT's crossing of the abyss

Article Abstract:

Rob Ferguson, chairman of Bankers Trust of Australia Ltd., was pleased with the eventual outcome of his firm's nine-month merger quest, resulting in the executive support of Bankers Trust's independent financial advisers and a merger with Principal Financial Group. Eighty percent of Bankers Trust's retail clients are managed by independent advisers, and domestic bidders saw the advisory operations as rivals. The combined technology services of Principal and Bankers Trust will allow Bankers Trust to provide better service to independent advisers.

The case of AMP, stevedoring and agriculture all show a need for culture change.
