The cost accounting profession has a poor public reputation due mostly to erroneous media reports. There are reports indicating that cost accounting techniques result in lower estimates of productivity rates. Misunderstanding about cost accounting centers on its functions. The major function of cost accounting is to increase the efficiency of factories, especially plants with a high labor expense and with relatively few products to produce.
