Beam me up, Ziggy

Article Abstract:

Telstra Corp. and its chief executive officer Ziggy Switkowski plan to develop several new business areas and diversify geographically. By December 1999, Telstra will have taken shares in Internet, electronic commerce, and software companies, as it attempts to expand from telecommunications into Internet-based communications. Since June 1999, Telstra has been spent more than $300 million in Internet development, with stakes in Computershare, Solution 6 Holdings Ltd., and Sausage Software Ltd. Telstra also wants to form more alliances with overseas businesses, through equity or joint ventures.
